Your eyes fleet upon the clinically-white plastic bag thrust into the room as you dread the next few minutes, trying not to register the pungent antiseptic smell piercing the air like a hypodermic needle, and attempting futilely to banish the thought of the bitter tablets being forced down your throat.
You slowly tear open the packaging of the first tablet, the meticulous packaging taunting you slowly, as if pushing a gigantic syringe needle in you and slowly pulling the plunger, sucking the blood out drop by drop. You wonder at the time and resources the doctors must have used to wrap each and every antibiotic tablet in shiny foil that reflected your disgusted face as you open it to find a tablet, white as a sheet, with a line so fastidiously cut a scalpel might have been used to cut it.
You force it between your pursed lips, trying to dismiss the sharp gush of bitterness in your mouth, and try hopefully to wash it down with a big mugful of glassy, comparedly sweet water. You succeed, but just barely, as you remember bitterly the blockage in your throat just milliseconds ago.
Next came the Strepsils. The packet the twelve tablets are clothed in is strangely tough, you mutter as you attempt to tear open the smooth and reflective wrapping. The wrapper finally gives way and you see twelve perfectly round circles encased in a chequered, metal surface, each of them a strange iridescent turquoise in colour. You pick the package up and, after hovering hesitatingly over one of the twelve pristine lozenges, takes the plunge and pushes the lozenge out of its prison, breaking the foil in the process. The now-free lozenge now lies in your palm, its manufactured lacquer glistening crudely in the light. You slip it between your reluctant lips and try your best to endure the cloying sweetness of the mixture of Amylmetacresol B.P., 2.4-Dicholorobenzyl Alcohol, and Lignocaine Hydrochloride Ph.
